DR Congo isolates around 200 river boat passengers as Ebola response intensifies
Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have tested and placed in isolation approximately 200 passengers from a river boat intercepted in Kinshasa, after a traveller on board died of suspected Ebola, according to Africanews. The move is part of an intensifying effort to contain the country’s latest outbreak of the virus.
The vessel was stopped in the capital, Kinshasa, where medical teams began screening those on board. The passengers are being monitored while laboratory tests are conducted to determine whether any of them were exposed to the Ebola virus. The traveller who died had shown symptoms consistent with the disease, prompting authorities to act quickly.

The river serves as a major transport corridor linking the capital to provinces further inland, and passenger boats carrying hundreds of travellers move regularly between riverside communities. Health officials have previously identified such transport routes as a potential vector for the spread of infectious diseases.

The country has been a focal point for global health organisations working to improve surveillance, rapid response and vaccination protocols.
