NNPC Limited, FIRST E&P JV Launch Multi-Year NGO Grant Programme
NNPC Limited and FIRST Exploration and Petroleum Development Company Limited (FIRST E&P) have launched “Impact FIRST: Heritage,” a multi-year grant programme aimed at supporting Nigerian non-governmental organisations, according to a This Day report published by AllAfrica.
The initiative, run through the two companies’ joint venture, will provide sustained funding and long-term partnership support to NGOs that have demonstrated exceptional impact, accountability and governance, as This Day reported. The grant scheme is designed to scale the social impact work already carried out by civil society groups across Nigeria.
NNPC Limited is Nigeria’s state-owned national petroleum company, restructured as a commercial entity under the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021. It operates joint ventures with both international oil majors and indigenous companies. FIRST E&P is one of Nigeria’s independent upstream operators, focused on oil and gas exploration and production, primarily in the Niger Delta.
Corporate social responsibility has long shaped how oil companies operate in Nigeria, particularly in host communities affected by extraction. Industry operators have faced sustained scrutiny over environmental damage, gas flaring and underdevelopment in oil-producing regions, prompting many firms — both state-owned and independent — to formalise community investment programmes.
