About Now In Africa

Now In Africa is an independent news and analysis service covering Africa — its politics, economies, conflicts, cultures, environments and sports. We publish original analysis, explainers and data journalism that help you understand the continent, in plain English.

Our mission

Africa is the fastest-growing region on earth, and it remains chronically under-covered by international media. A reader who wants a single place to follow what is happening across fifty-four countries has few good options. Now In Africa exists to be that place: serious, original coverage of the continent, in one feed, in plain English.

We cover six areas: Politics and Governance, Economy and Business, Conflict and Security, Society and Culture, Environment and Science, and Sports.

How our articles are produced

We believe you should know exactly how what you are reading was made.

Every article on Now In Africa is written and signed by a human editor or contributing analyst. We do original work: analysis with a clear angle, explainers that unpack complex subjects, and data journalism built on verifiable public sources (IMF, World Bank, UN agencies, electoral commissions, central banks).

We use AI tools the way a newsroom uses a research assistant: to crunch datasets, transcribe interviews or sketch a first structure. AI never publishes on this site. Every piece is fact-checked, edited and signed by a human before publication, and every author has a public bio page.

  • Original angle. We don’t rewrite the wires. If a story is already well covered elsewhere, we link to it — we don’t duplicate it. We publish what adds understanding: why it matters, what the data says, what happens next.
  • Named sources. Every factual claim is traceable to a named source, linked wherever possible. We never invent quotations, statistics, figures or dates.
  • Attribution. When we build on someone else’s reporting, we name the publication and link to the original. The reporting is theirs; the analysis is ours.
  • Illustration. Where a genuine photograph of the subject exists under an open licence, we use it and print the photographer and licence beneath it. Where none exists, we publish an AI-generated illustration, which carries no credit line because there is no photographer to credit. An image without a credit beneath it is therefore a generated illustration, not a photograph of the event, and should not be read as documentary evidence of it. We do not generate images depicting identifiable real people.

Editorial standards

We distinguish news from analysis. We correct errors when they are pointed out to us. We do not accept payment for editorial coverage, and no article on this site is sponsored.

We would rather state our limits than let you discover them. We are a small, independent newsroom: we don’t have correspondents in every capital, and for fast-moving breaking events the wire services remain authoritative. What we offer instead is depth: context, data and explanation you won’t find in a 300-word dispatch.

Corrections

If you find an error, an unfair characterisation, or an image you believe is wrongly used or credited, write to us and we will correct or remove it. We take image licensing and attribution seriously; if you are a rights holder and believe your work has been used incorrectly, tell us and we will act.
