Ghana’s NSA Inaugurates Committee to Mobilise Resources for Sports Development
Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA) has inaugurated a five-member Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee (RMPC) charged with strengthening funding streams and strategic partnerships for sports development across the country.
According to AllAfrica, citing the Ghanaian Times, the NSA Board formally established the committee as part of efforts to broaden the financial base of Ghanaian sport and identify sustainable financing opportunities beyond traditional government allocations.
The NSA, the state body responsible for coordinating and promoting sports in Ghana, oversees the development of sporting infrastructure, supports national federations and manages public sports facilities. Ghana has long punched above its weight in disciplines such as athletics, boxing and football, but national teams and federations have repeatedly struggled with limited budgets, delayed subventions and ageing infrastructure, hampering preparation for major international competitions.
The newly inaugurated committee is expected to engage private-sector sponsors, development partners and philanthropists, and to advise the NSA Board on partnership frameworks that can deliver more predictable funding for athletes, federations and grassroots programmes. Resource mobilisation committees have become a common feature of national sports administration across Africa, where governments are increasingly looking to supplement strained public coffers with corporate and institutional partnerships.
By formalising the effort within the NSA Board, the Authority is signalling that diversifying sports financing is now a standing institutional priority rather than an ad-hoc exercise.
