A leading Kenyan politician has called on the country to begin a national conversation about a long-term development vision stretching to 2060, according to the-star.co.ke.
Anyang’ Nyong’o, the Governor of Kisumu County and a longstanding figure in Kenyan politics and academia, has argued that Kenya must start thinking beyond its current planning horizon to shape the country’s trajectory for the coming decades. With the 2030 horizon approaching, policymakers have begun to ask what a successor framework should look like.
The “Vision 2060” framing would extend planning across several generational shifts in a country whose population is projected to keep expanding rapidly. It places Kenya alongside other African states that have already adopted long-horizon plans, including Rwanda’s Vision 2050. Whether Nyong’o’s call leads to a formal government-led process is not yet clear, but his intervention suggests the debate is being pushed into the open ahead of the current plan’s endpoint.
